Never Forgotten

Each dog I have owned has touched my life in innumerable ways.  They are our teachers, our confidantes and our best friends.  And they never live long enough.  I have been fortunate to have had some truly lovely dogs touch my life and to each I am forever indebted for the many things they taught me and all the love they gave.

Aiden

Aiden was the sweetest German Shepherd you could ever hope to meet.  He was supposed to be a show dog, but life - medical school and then residency - got in the way.  He was with me through my training, always ready to cuddle or go for a walk.  He was one of the easiest dogs I have ever trained and, having worked as a dog trainer, I have literally worked with hundreds of dogs.  Aiden mastered eight weeks of obedience in two and was heeling off-lead with very little effort from me.  I will forever miss my sweet boy.

Alec

Alec was the epitome of the breed, willing to try his hand (or paw) at anything - we trained in obedience, agility, and search and rescue.  He came to me when I was 14 and he was with me through the ups and downs of adolescence.  He was willing to try anything and had the personality we all look for in a German Shepherd.  He was twice High in Trial in obedience, including at the Canadian National Specialty, and finished up his CD and CDX in the minimum number of trials.  In a lot of ways, his personality is what I continue to look for in my dogs today.  He set very high expectations for all my future shepherds.
