I have been passionate about dogs for as long as I can remember and began training when I was 12 years old.  I went on to title my first dog, Thomas, a Golden Retriever, by 14.  I have trained in obedience, rally, tracking/Search and rescue, agility, conformation and barn hunt and titled in conformation, obedience, and barn hunt.  As a teenager, I volunteered at a local dog school, and have helped to train hundreds of dogs.  It was there that I had my first real experience with a German Shepherd.  After getting my first German Shepherd, Alec, I fell in love with the breed.  He was my closest companion and confidante and together we tackled everything.  He earned his Companion Dog Excellent Title in 6 straight shows (the minimum) and was twice High in Trial at specialty shows, including the Canadian National.  I have been hooked on Shepherds ever since and can’t imagine my life without them.

Riddle Shepherds has grown out of my love for the breeder.  My professional background – an MD/PhD with graduate training in behavior and genetics – gives me a unique perspective as a breeder.  I believe great dogs are the result of nature, nurture, and careful planning.  I am committed to all my puppies for their entire lifetime.  That starts before they are born, with health testing their parents and providing excellent care and training.  My dogs live in the house with me.  Puppies are born in my bedroom and raised inside.  They receive extensive early socialization and conditioning, giving them the best start possible.  Once they go to their new homes, I remain eager to answer questions and provide support to their new owners.  I have spent many hours volunteering in animal shelters both here and in New York, and I am acutely aware of the many dogs in need new homes.  As a result, I only breed dogs who I believe will contribute to the breed and will offer a home to any of my own pups at any time if their owners are no longer able to care for them.   As I said, my commitment to these pups does not end when they leave my home.

Please contact me if you have any questions.  I am always happy to talk about my dogs.

Best wishes,

Megan
